Matters, time and billing — operating within the Professional Services operational architecture, with capabilities, data fields, and workflows configured for how a legal actually manages its day-to-day operations.
A legal practice manages a portfolio of matters where the consequences of missed deadlines, incomplete discovery or poor conflict checking can be severe — for the client and for the firm. Maintaining the level of matter discipline, time recording and billing accuracy that professional responsibility requires demands a practice management system that supports the fee earner, not just the finance function.
Fee earners are managing active matters, attending hearings or client meetings, and billing time in a system they find administratively burdensome. Time entries are often recorded in bulk at the end of the day or week rather than contemporaneously, reducing accuracy. Matter status is tracked in the fee earner's personal system — the practice manager has no real-time view of active file progress across the team. Billing realisations are lower than they should be because non-billable time inflates the WIP.
These are the capabilities configured for this template. Start with them, then adjust to your process — nothing invented, only what a legal actually uses.

Deploy from the Professional Services operational baseline—shared capabilities, field structures, and workflow logic—then extend it with the data models, process steps, and reporting formats specific to a legal operation.
