Niche inventory and advice — operating within the Retail operational architecture, with capabilities, data fields, and workflows configured for how a specialty store actually manages its day-to-day operations.
A specialty store's competitive advantage is expertise — the depth of product knowledge and the quality of customer advice that a generic retailer can't replicate. Protecting and leveraging that advantage requires a business system that tracks the right customer with the right product interest, manages specialist inventory intelligently and supports a clienteling approach that drives repeat business.
The floor team builds deep relationships with regular customers but those relationships live in the staff member's head, not in the system. When that staff member leaves, so does the customer's history. Specialist stock — limited editions, pre-orders, custom orders — is tracked in bespoke spreadsheets that are opaque to anyone not managing that specific category. Supplier lead times for specialist products vary wildly and are managed by each buyer individually.
Starts from the Retail core — shared capabilities, terminology and workflows — then configures precisely for specialty store: specific data fields, approval steps and operational reports. You define your actual workflows and the system structures itself around your specialty store operation, evolving as the business grows.
These are the capabilities configured for this template. Start with them, then adjust to your process — nothing invented, only what a specialty store actually uses.
